Remote Seals
ABB is the industry leader in the manufacture of remote seals for measuring media which cannot be allowed to flow directly into the measuring mechanism. The range includes all-welded remote seals for continuous reliability and performance from full vacuum to maximum working pressure. The different process and application fill fluids cover the widest temperature range 40°C to +400°C (-40°F to + 752°F). Seal types are available for chemical tees, wafer, flange mounting, flush or extended diaphragms, threaded union, welded hushing, clean-in-place, sanitary and aseptic applications.

Multi Variable Transmitters

Temperature Instruments

Water & Industrial Analysis

Transmitters
For plant and site-wide compatibility, ABB has developed a “universal transmitter” for the measurement of either pH/Redox, Conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen, Turbidity and Zirconia Oxygen. Common electronics, spares and operating procedures dramatically decrease cost of ownership, reduce maintenance budgets and provide ease of operation. A series of two-wire transmitters for the industrial and process measurement of pH/Redox and Conductivity provide low cost installation and reduced wiring costs. These transmitters include complete instrument and sensor diagnostics and are SMART programmable. Certified intrinsically safe CENELEC/FM/CSA, they have NEMA 4X/IP66 protection and are CE approved.

Water Analyzers
We provide precision measurement and control in the water/steam cycle in the power industry, sew age treatment, river quality effluent discharge and potable water.

For the measurement of dissolved oxygen in boiler feed water and condensate monitoring, the ABB range of analysis instruments covers both high and low levels and is ideal for two shifting power stations. The extensive range of dissolved oxygen systems incorporates convenient, disposable sensors, making it ideal for applications as diverse as aeration control in sewage and effluent treatment plants and environmental monitoring in lakes, reservoirs and rivers. Systems are available in floating ball, dip and submersible versions with spray jet water/air cleaning options. An exciting advance in water treatment, the ABB dissolved organics monitor incorporates an ultra stable light source, automatic on-line cleaning, diagnostics and turbidity compensation.

ABB has a massive installed base of sodium and hydrazine analyzers, for both low and ultra low level measurements. These analyzers offer accuracy, consistency, and a low cost of ownership.

For monitoring ammonia, fluoride, nitrate, chloride, silica and phosphate in rivers, potable water and sewage treatment, ABB monitors guarantee high integrity measurement and high reliability with minimum maintenance.

Based on IR nephelometric techniques, an outstanding and successful range of turbidity monitors available in dip and flow-through versions is suitable for applications within both the water and process industries ABB is a pioneer in the supply of self-contained laboratories and packaged analytical systems for water, power generation and other applications.

PH/Redox(ORP)
ABB provide a range of process, laboratory and industrial systems and electrodes for the measurement of pH/Redox(ORP). Utilizing patented sensor technologies, they consistently out perform other manufacturers’ instruments in the most challenging process conditions, including high temperatures, high pressures and solids, Assemblies with polypropylene and stainless steel bodies, designed for 12mm DIN sensors, offer superior performance. The rugged TB5 Series assemblies, capable of operating up to 140°C (248°F) and 17bar (247psi) are the toughest available anywhere. The ABB range of electrodes includes cartridge electrodes with quick connection, a double bayonet for safety and an integral Spray-Jet wash facility. High performance process electrodes with increased sensor life promise reduced operational and maintenance costs.

For liquids and semi solids, ABB laboratory electrodes incorporate connectors for most commercially available meters. Rugged and tough industrial electrodes include measurement and reference combination versions.

Conductivity Measurement
An extensive range of cells, guaranteeing exceptional durability, accuracy and easy maintenance. The ABB range includes high accuracy two-electrode sensors for trace conductivity levels, multi-electrode sensors for immediate service, plus rugged toroidal (electrodeless) and multi-electrode configurations for use in heavy fouling applications and aggressive solutions. All are available in insertion dip, flow-through and Hot-Tap retractable versions.

For ultra-pure water applications, the extensive ABB range includes carbon or stainless steel electrodes with high accuracy cell constants. A further series includes electrodes that can operate at up to 90% fouling without loss of measurement integrity, with a self-checking fouling alarm.

Valve Automation, Pneumatic Devices, Electrical Control Actuators

Smart Positioners The TZID family of smart positioners form the vital link between the control system and the valve. The TZID incorporates auto-adjust to reduce commissioning time and an adaption program provides for optimal control of the position until set point is reached. Supported communication protocols include PROFIBUS and FOUNDATION fieldbus in addition to HART communications. With an unequaled immunity to shock and vibration up to 10kg (22 lbs), TZID smart positioners are available for linear or rotary actuators with spring return or double air action. The TZIM is a compact, lightweight electropneumatic positioner with high immunity to shock and vibration. It offers a cost-effective solution for basic applications. Converters
TEIP11 current-to-pneumatics converters boast the best vibration immunity in the industry, with a choice of housing materials and protection to suit ambient plant conditions. 
Actuators 
Continuous reliability and quality have been the hallmarks of Hartmann & Braun actuators for more than 50 years. The range includes part-turn actuators with torques ranging from 20Nm and 16000Nm (1.37 1b/ft and 1096 1b/ft) and linear actuators with forces between 4 Kn and 200Kn (900 lb/f and 20 tonf) which are suitable for use in harsh conditions.

All models offer continuous control with a virtually v ear-free operation, as well as the highest positioning accuracy and stability available, regardless of positioning time.

The continuous action, stall-proof motors do not require torque, position dependent protection or increased starting current. The gearings have an efficiency of around 80% with servicing only required after approximately 10 years.

Contrac, a new intelligent generation of actuators, can be ‘fitted and forgotten’. Suitable for use in the power, chemical, steel, cement, sugar processing, waste water and other industries, they offer an electronic positioning unit that is either integrated or close to the actuator. An integrated computer determines the required maintenance level and self-diagnosis reduces shut-down time to a minimum.

Contrans I, for plug-mounting on a single socket, is a conventional interface with point-to-point wiring. It provides safe, isolated and HART compatible connection to field instruments with considerable cost saving, as functional matching is possible even during commissioning phase. No dismantling of wires or rewiring is required when Contrans I is being serviced. Central parameter setting is possible via HART protocol and FSK bus. 

Contrans I Remote provides the remote interface solution with fieldbus communication via PROFIBUS or MODBUS, which saves cabling and related engineering cost. The modules are available with one, two or four channels, offer fail-safe values and detailed on-line diagnosis via Smart Vision. 

The modules are plug-mounted on a multi-channel backplane, connected to the system via ready-made cabling and include redundancy for power supply, signal connection and signal repetition. Central configuration and parameter setting on the subordinate instrument level is via FSK bus and HART protocol. A further ABB advantage is PLC/DCS connection to ABB’s suite of control systems.

ACS AC Drives achieve the ultimate in AC motor control perform ance. Thanks to Direct Torque Control (DTC) technology, the ACS 600 performs precise speed and torque control of standard squirrel cage motors without the added cost and incon venience of pulse encoder feedback. In fact, DTC has brought about fundamental changes to the way in which a motor can be controlled, so that now, in any application, the overall effectiveness of a drive is limited by the performance of the motor – not the drive.

The ACS 600 product family includes models to suit virtually any application or operating environment, with a complete selection of voltage, power and enclosure ratings, combined with highly flexible control and communications capabilities.

The ACS 600 series provides a selection of ready- made application macros and a wide range of fully programmable inputs and outputs. Should your application require distributed or high resolution control signals, analog and digital extension modules can be added. Optional modules mount on standard DIN rails and connect via a high speed fiber optic link. Fieldbus adapter modules are available for all the common fieldbus standards including Modbus, Modbus Plus, DeviceNet, Profibus, ABB MasterField Bus, Interbus-S and others.

Level

Pulse Radar
The combination of FCC Part 15 approval and EchoFox® tracking/mapping software is the key to successful continuous level measurement in challenging environments. In the forefront of our radar measurement technology is the VEGAPULS Series 50, the first 2-Wire Intrinsically Safe radar measurement system on the market. Designed for applications that are extremely difficult, the VEGA PULS 81.Ex high performance radar is available.

Applications: Liquids and solids, high temperatures and pressures, vacuum, dust, vapor and aggressive products. 

Ultrasonics This product line features a wide range of models for non-contact continuous measurement of liquids and solids. From the VEGASON Series 50, 2-wire transmitters to the VEGASON 87 with a range of 196 ft. (60m), each used in conjunction with EchoFox™ software, our systems provide you with the best mapping/tracking level system on the market.

Applications: Most liquids and solids including some foams. Applications from 2″ (50mm) span with 0.001″ (0.025mm) accuracy to 200 ft. (69m) silos.

Vibrating Switches Two product lines of vibrating point level switches provide precise application in either solids or liquids. The VEGAVIB for solids is a single rod that will not become clogged. The VEGASWING for liquids is a proven tuning fork design.

Applications: Virtually any free flowing liquid or solid, regardless of changes in density or dielectric constant. The VECAVIB has an option it to detect solids in liquids.

Intrinsic Safety Barriers, Isolators, I/O Products

Intrinsic Safety products come in many forms. Intrinsic Safety barriers and Intrinsic Safety isolators are common examples. Barriers and Isolators are design in many different form factors depending on the application and the equipment being protected. MTL also provides Intrinsic Safety sensors and displays. Devices that must operate safely in a hazardous area like solenoid valves and indicators. MTL also manufacture distributed data acquisition equipment, multiplexers and Process I/O that is safe in hazardous applications. We can also provide gas analysis equipment, safe exit lighting and gas detection products.

The process industries are rapidly evolving to distributed control via the Fieldbus technology. MTL anticipated this trend and developed the industries first Process I/O product, the MTL8000. MTL8000 is a truly field mountable process I/O product family. It is designed to live where your transmitters live. MTL8000 is also the first I/O system to permit mounting directly in the hazardous areas, whether Class I Division 1 or Division 2 ( and this includes non-incentive and non-arcing environments).
